Tunisian president cancels trips to Brazil and Senegal due to security crisis

Tunisia’s official news agency has reported that Interim President Moncel Marzouki has cancelled trips to Brazil and Senegal because of the worsening security situation in the country.

According to a Presidential press statement, “Due to the delicate situation that the country is going through, President Marzouki has decided to cancel his trip to Brazil for the Rio +20 summit on sustainable development, scheduled for June 20 and 21.”


Several Tunisian cities have witnessed clashes between Salafist youth and security forces recently. There has been one fatality in Sousse and a number of injuries.
