Israel has said that it will “never apologise” for its attack on the Freedom Flotilla at the end of May, despite threats from Turkey’s Foreign Minister to sever diplomatic relations and close his country’s airspace to Israeli flights.
According to the Turkish newspaper Hurriyet, Ahmet Davutoglu said, “This decision is not limited to only one or two military flights,” adding that the ban could be widened to cover civilian airliners.
A spokesperson for the Israeli Prime Minister’s office said that the country will “never apologise for defending its citizens”.
Turkey and Israel have, since 1996, signed a number of military cooperation agreements but the Jewish state’s attack on the humanitarian aid convoy on 31st May has led to an unprecedented crisis between the two countries.
