Talk of tensions in Qatar-Saudi relations is 'idle gossip'

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry denied claims of differences between Qatar and Saudi Arabia, pointing out that “what is being said is idle gossip”.

A ministry official told Asharq news agency that claims of tension in the brotherly relations linking the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Qatar are surprising.

“How do you explain the signing of agreements and memoranda of understanding between the two countries during the past few days, if the relations between the two countries were strained?” the source was quoted as saying.

“This refutes all rumours of differences between the two countries raised by those who fabricate lies to undermine the relations between the two countries and people,” he added.

The source also highlighted the relations between Qatar and Kuwait saying that Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah; First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Kuwait visited Doha on Tuesday and conveyed a message of friendship from Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Amir of Kuwait. The source said the visit aimed to coordinate positions on various issues in the Gulf region, the Arab world and internationally.

The source stressed that Qatar wishes to unify Gulf efforts in several issues, mainly the Syrian conflict and the Egyptian situation.
