Ibrahim Mounir criticises ICC's position on Egypt coup's crimes

The secretary general of the international Muslim Brotherhood Ibrahim Mounir lashed out at the recent position by the International Criminal Court turning down a complaint by an international legal team on behalf of the Freedom and Justice party regarding crimes against humanity perpetrated by the military coup leaders.

Mounir said that the ICC’s position may be interpreted as a recognition of the coup regime in Egypt.

“The ICC’s position is political, not legal,” Mounir told Arabi21 website.

Mounir criticised the ICC’s attorney general’s statements in which she said that those filing the complaint were not representing the Egyptian government. “This is a strange position,” he said.

However, Mounir said that the legal team will approach the ICC with further documentation and evidence. He also said that the team will address the United Nations.
