Al Qaradawi calls on Egyptians to boycott presidential elections

The Egyptian-Qatari Islamic scholar and preacher Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi called on Egyptians to boycott the upcoming presidential elections and accused the military candidate of seizing power through injustice and tyranny.

Al Qaradawi told AFP Sunday that presidential hopeful and ex-army chief Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi “ousted an elected president, and took over power by injustice and tyranny.”

Asked whether he considered taking part in the upcoming elections as religiously prohibited, he answered definitively: “Of course”.

Al Qaradawi delivered those remarks in Doha following his keynote speech at a conference held by the International Union of Islamic Scholars, which he leads.
