There are no detainees in Egypt, says minister

Minister of Justice in the military-installed government of Egypt Nayer Osman claimed: “there are no detainees in Egypt” in response to reports of secret detentions recently revealed by Amnesty International.

Osman pointed out that he verified his claim with the public prosecutor Hisham Barak, and found that there are no detainees in Egyptian prisons. Those arrested are facing charges, he added.

At a press conference Saturday, Osman stressed that Egyptian judiciary is not politicised, and that all lawsuits currently reviewed are based on criminal offenses as stipulated in the penal code.
