Egypt releases Al Jazeera correspondent pending investigations

The Egyptian public prosecutor Hisham Barakat decided the release of Al Jazeera correspondent Abdullah Al-Shamy along with 13 other defendants in provisional detention since August 14.

Al-Shamy has been staging a hunger strike for 134 days. According to the prosecution, the decision came due to “the health conditions” of detainees.

The release is pending further investigations by the general prosecution in the case dubbed in the media as “Rabaa protest dispersal.”
