Egypt's intelligence chief visits Israel

Egyptian intelligence chief General Mohamed Al-Tuhami visited Israel in the past few days and met with senior Israeli officials, Israel Radio revealed yesterday.

The radio channel said Al-Tuhami met with officials from the defence ministry and security agencies. It added that his talks addressed the latest escalation in Gaza and strategic Israeli-Egyptian relations.

According the radio correspondent, the visit lasted for a few hours and focused on the ramifications of the kidnapping and killing of three Israeli settlers.

“Egyptian intelligence has reduced its mediation efforts for ceasefire after Hamas’ failure to respond to calls for calm,” the reporter said.

A number of Egyptian news media have reported on the visit, including the pro-government daily Al-Masry Al-Youm.
