Egypt has expressed “deep concern” regarding the continued escalation of the situation in the Palestinian territories, the government said in a statement.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry demanded “restraint. Avoid mutual acts of violence in order to avoid slipping into a cycle of violence and counter-violence and to spare civilians from these horrors; increase their suffering and the number of civilian casualties.”

On Monday evening, Israel launched a series of raids across the Gaza Strip, in a military operation named Operation Protective Edge.

The raids have killed 28 Palestinians, including children, and injuring about 204 others, some seriously, Palestinian medical sources said.
