Permanent Iraqi representative to the UN Mohamed Ali Al-Hakim yesterday called for the UN Security Council to help Iraq in order to face ISIS, Al-Sharq newspaper reported.
Al-Hakeem warned of ISIS’ expansion in Iraq, saying it “threatens the stability of the whole region, as well as international safety and security.” He, therefore, called for the UNSC help face the organisation, without more clarification about the nature of the needed help.
He said that the areas under ISIS sovereignty witness the kidnapping of diplomats, carrying out of massacres against civilians and mass executions. Which, he explained, mount to “war crimes”.
In addition, he said that the attacks of the “terrorists” during the previous weeks led to the displacement of more than 1.5 million Iraqis. He said that the Iraqi security forces, with the help of volunteers and tribesmen, are trying to liberate Iraqi areas from ISIS.
