US congressional delegation arrives in Cairo

A delegation from the US Congress reportedly arrived in Cairo on Monday afternoon to visit Egypt. The duration of the visit has not been announced, but they will meet with a number of Egyptian officials, according to shipping and security sources at Cairo’s airport.

Anadolu news agency cited the sources as saying that the delegation arrived on an Egyptair flight coming directly from New York.

The sources also noted that Representative Mike Rogers, a Republican from Michigan who serves as the chairperson for the House Intelligence Committee, would arrive from Frankfurt to join the American delegation later on Monday.

Rogers headed the last delegation from the US that visited Cairo.

Anadolu also cited diplomatic sources who that said the American delegation is expected to discuss the latest developments in the region, especially the Egyptian initiative for the cease-fire in the Gaza Strip.
