Lebanon approves $1bn Saudi grant for its armed forces

The Lebanese cabinet has approved a Saudi grant worth 1$bn for the army and security forces, the minister of information said Thursday.

According to the Lebanese minister of information, Ramzy Greig, the cabinet has taken a decision to approve the in-kind grant from the Saudi government. The grant consists of weapons and equipment aimed at “modernising” the Lebanese army and security agencies.

According to the Lebanese newspaper Daily Star, former prime minister Saad al-Hariri has been “entrusted” by the Saudi government to buy the equipment and “ensure the proper disbursement of the aid.”
