Eleven people were executed in the Gaza Strip today after being found guilty of spying for Israel, a pro-Hamas internet portal reported.
“The 11 people were executed for spying for Israel after taking all judicial measures,” Al-Aqsa TV quoted a security source as saying.
The portal said that “firm measures” are being taken against agents spying for Israel.
According to a reporter, the executions took place in western Gaza City. Reporters were banned from covering the events.
Security agencies in the besieged coastal enclave frequently clamp down on suspected spies.
Suspects always face trial behind closed doors; the media is usually prevented from covering the proceedings.
Violence flared up again on Tuesday between Israel and Palestinian factions in the Gaza Strip following the collapse of indirect talks aimed at reaching a permanent ceasefire deal.
Since hostilities began on July 7, at least 2,089 Palestinians have been killed – the vast majority of them civilians – and more than 10,000 injured by Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip.
Thousands of homes in Gaza have also been destroyed by relentless Israeli bombardments.
Over the same period, 67 Israelis – 64 soldiers and three civilians – have been killed, according to Israeli figures.
