Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood holds internal elections

Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood has conducted internal elections and reviews, but its General Guide Dr Mohamed Badie, will remain the leader so long as he is in jail, a senior Brotherhood official said Sunday.

The Secretary General of the Muslim Brotherhood in Britain Ibrahim Mounir, said in press statements from his London residence that the group held internal elections “on all levels”, including its highest authority, the Guidance Bureau.

Mounir added that the Brotherhood has carried out “extensive reviews and corrections”, stressing that they are “not infallible.”

He added that one day justice will be served, and everyone will realize that Mohamed Morsi has been overthrown “because he refused compromises in eradicating corruption.”

He denied the existence of any negotiations with the current regime or meditations between them and the government, reiterating that resisting the coup will remain non-violent.

He also denied rumours regarding the dismantling of the Anti-Coup Alliance, pointing out that it has played a crucial role in resisting the coup in Egypt and abroad. Both the Alliance and the recently launched Revolutionary Council will continue to play an important role in the international movement against the coup in the coming phase, he said.
