The US and its Arab partners air raids against oil fields controlled by Islamic State (ISIS) militants in Syria yesterday evening, the Pentagon announced.
The source confirmed that Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates took part in the recent air strikes in Syria.
Pentagon spokesman Navy Rear Adm. John Kirby told CNN that coalition forces hit 12 targets, including oil refineries that were providing an income of up to $2 million a day to ISIS.
ISIS militants seized a number of oil fields in Syria as an important source of funding, and are selling crude oil at low prices through intermediaries in Turkey, Iraq, Iran and Jordan.
Last month, the US began air strikes against ISIS positions in Iraq and expanded the attacks into Syria on Tuesday with the participation of five Arab countries: Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar and Jordan.
American officials announced that the Jordanian Air Force participated in yesterday’s strikes against the Islamic State.
