Germany praises Turkey for 'saving' millions of Syrian and Iraqi refugees

The German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier welcomed “the participation of Turkey in the international coalition against ISIS”, noting that Ankara “has helped millions of people, at least saving their lives by receiving them in refugee camps”.

Steinmeier told Germany’s Der Spiegel that Berlin will not proceed with any military move on Syrian territory, explaining that “none of the Western countries are ready to send ground troops on the ground to Syria”.

The minister stressed on “the need for the region’s states to put their differences aside for now and focus on achieving success in facing ISIS,” noting that this is on the agenda of his planned visit to Saudi Arabia today.
