Hamas calls on Palestinians to rise up in defence of Al-Aqsa

Hamas yesterday called on the Palestinian people to support the resistance and to rise up in defence of Al-Aqsa Mosque against the Israeli “violations and crimes” which are committed every day.

In a press statement, Hamas warned Israel against the repercussions of closing Al-Aqsa Mosque. The movement also called on the international community to put an immediate end to the Israeli attacks on Muslim sanctities.

Hamas urged the Palestinian Authority and reconciliation government to take responsibility towards Al-Aqsa and to take practical measures to save it. The movement also demanded Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas stop “security coordination” with the Israeli occupation and urged him to enable the Palestinian people to rise up in the face of the Israeli “attack” on Jerusalem and the holy sites.

Hamas also urged Jordan to uphold its responsibilities towards Al-Aqsa Mosque and urged all regional and international parties to defend the Islamic sanctities in Jerusalem.

It stressed the need to sever all Arab-Israeli ties, recall Arab ambassadors from Israel, and expel Israeli ambassadors from the Arab capitals.

Yesterday evening, Israeli police announced Al-Aqsa Mosque would be re-opened on today after closing the mosque all day.

Israeli authorities closed Al-Aqsa Mosque yesterday morning after the Jewish Rabbi Yehuda Glick was seriously injured in an assassination attempt in West Jerusalem on Wednesday evening. Glick is an activist calling for the storing of the Temple Mount in the place of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
