Abu-Marzouk: 'Government reforms must be agreed upon by all parties'

Any amendments to the Palestinian unity government must be done with the agreement of all parties involved, a senior Hamas leader said yesterday.

Mousa Abu-Marzouk wrote on Facebook: “Today there are people who are talking about making changes to the unity government, especially ministers from Gaza only because of their slight bias towards issues related to Gaza. However, these people don’t know that any change must be agreed upon by all parties.”

He continued: “The time frame agreed upon for the unity government is six months which should end on December 2, 2014. Most Palestinian political parties and factions are calling for a strong unity government and there are a lot of justifications for this approach.”

A well-informed source told Al-Quds that major modifications to Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah’s government would occur early next year.

Abu-Marzouk’s comment came in response to a statement that was made by Qais Abdel Karim, a member of the political bureau in the Democratic Front, in which he said that the first step towardd starting a national dialogue is for Hamas to disclose the names of criminals who carried out the Gaza bombings. It is also important to enable the unity government to carry out its responsibilities in the Gaza Strip.
