Qatar and Turkey boost strategic cooperation

Qatar’s Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani has signed a series of agreements with Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, including a memorandum to establish a “Supreme Strategic Committee” and a deal on military cooperation. The agreements were signed during the Emir of Qatar’s official visit to Ankara made at the invitation of Erdogan, who visited Doha in September.

According to Anadolu news agency, this boost in relations between the two states comes as a result of the similar views held in both capitals about many regional and global issues. Analysts regard the memorandum as a “very important” step.

“Turkey and Qatar have never drifted apart,” said President Erdogan as he described the already strong links between his country and Qatar. “We have always been together, we have always been in solidarity and we have always designated standing by the oppressed people of the world as our common denominator.”
