Abbas is to seek Palestinian state recognition at UNSC again

Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas stressed yesterday that he is going to apply for the UNSC to recognise a Palestinian State on the 1967 borders again and again, the Anadolu Agency reported.

Speaking at inauguration of a photography exhibition entitled “Jerusalem in Memory” organised by the Research Centre for Islamic History, Art and Culture (IRCICA), Abbas said: “The PA leadership is sticking with the political and diplomatic resistance until the achievement of a Palestinian state on the Palestinian territories occupied in 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital.”

“We are studying going to the UNSC again with our Jordanian brothers. This could be in a week’s time, or in one month. In case it was refused by the UNSC, we would go there for a third and fourth time. We will not give up until we get our rights.”

Abbas said that the PA signed documents for joining 20 international treaties and conventions after the failure of its statehood bid in the UNSC. “We have the right to join 500 treaties, conventions and organisations,” Abbas said.

The PA president stressed that there would not be stability or safety in the region without Jerusalem, which the occupation is Judising by expelling Arabs from it. “We say to them, we are staying here [in Jerusalem]. It is the land of our fathers and grandfathers,” he said.

He added: “We will never accept any alternative for East Jerusalem to be the capital of our independent state.”
