A former aide of Egypt’s ousted President Mohamed Morsi was released from prison yesterday on the orders of Attorney General Hisham Barakat, the Anadolu Agency reported.

A family statement said: “The Attorney General issued an order to release Khaled Al-Qazzaz on December 29, and today Khaled was released from his hospital room.”

A lawyer familiar with Al-Qazzaz’s case, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said that Al-Qazzaz was freed after providing a legal request for his release for health reasons.

Al-Qazzaz, who served as Morsi’s secretary for foreign affairs, was arrested in July 2013 following the military coup in the country.
