Hamas has reaffirmed its “strategic position” regarding its refusal to recognise Israel, or hold direct talks with it, Jordanian newspaper Al-Ghad said.
The paper reported Hamas spokesman Ismail Ridwan saying: “It is not in Hamas’s agenda to recognise the Israeli occupation, negotiate with it or accept the two-state solution.”
His remarks came after a question by Al-Ghad in response to what Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu that Hamas “was seeking recognition of Israel in the framework of the two-state solution”.
Ridwan told the paper: “Hamas’s position towards the Israeli occupation is based on resistance and the mobilisation of Arabic and Islamic powers for the sake of supporting the Palestinians in the face of the Israeli occupation.”
About negotiations, Ridwan said: “Since the time of the Oslo Accords, negotiations proved nothing but futile. They have even been against national principles.”
“The discussions with our Arab and Islamic brothers have always been held around reinforcing the Palestinian rights and principles, lifting the siege on Gaza, opening the crossings and the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip,” he said.
He refused any concessions made through proposals presented for the UN Security Council or any other national or international body.
