Israel decides to reduce electricity supplies to PA territories

The Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) has decided to reduce electricity supplies to Palestinian Authority (PA) territories due to accumulated debts, Israeli TV reported on Wednesday.

As a first step to deal with the debts, the IEC announced it would reduce electricity supplies without an adverse effect on households.

Israeli TV reported the IEC as saying that the overdue debts of the PA reached NIS 1.8 billion ($4.6 million), and that the decision came after several warnings were made to the PA through related parties.

According to reports, Israeli Financial Minister Yuval Steinitz had earlier frozen PA tax money in order to pay them off to the IEC for the overdue debts. But Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu decided to release the money as a good-will gesture towards the PA.
