Ambassadors: Former Yemeni politicians should enjoy freedom of movement

Ambassadors of 14 countries have called on all Yemeni parties to implement their obligations to the outcomes of the national dialogue conference, the peace and national partnership agreement and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) initiative, the Anadolu Agency reported.

In a statement issued yesterday, the ambassadors said: “Resigning President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi and his Prime Minister Khalid Bahah and the cabinet ministers should enjoy freedom of movement within and outside the country, and that force should not be used against their movements.”

In their statement, the ambassadors stressed their full “support of the current negotiations under the auspices of the UN Special Representative Jamal Bin Omar which aim to reach a solution based on political consensus”.

The statement pointed to “the need to achieve political consensus through genuine political will from all Yemeni parties”, saying that Yemenis “should avoid individual practices and unite their course during this critical phase of Yemeni history”.

The ambassadors called on all parties to “interact positively, respect United Nations freedom of movement, assembly and expression”.

“These agreements represent the sole basis to the transitional process which benefits all the Yemeni people,” they explaned.

Yemen has been living in constitutional vacuum since January 21, after President Hadi and his government resigned following the Shia Houthis’ occupation of the presidential headquarters in the capital, Sanaa.

Since then, Hadi, Bahah and several ministers have been living under house arrest imposed on them by the Houthis.

The group on Monday gave the political forces three days to agree to fill the vacuum in power, otherwise they will do so via the so-called revolutionary committees.
