Egypt’s trade deficit increased by 13.9 per cent to reach 26.49 billion Egyptian pounds ($3.47 billion) in November 2014 compared to 23.26 billion pounds ($3.05 billion) in the same period in 2013, the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics revealed.

In a statement released yesterday, the agency pointed out that the trade deficit resulted from increasing the value of imports by 9.6 per cent to reach 42.65 billion pounds ($5.59 billion) in November 2014 compared to 38.9 billion pounds ($5.1 billion) in November the previous year.

According to the report, the most important imports are wheat, petroleum products, cars and crude oil. Adding that the value of some exports fell most importantly: fertilisers, petroleum products, clothes, carpet and rugs and dairy products.
