Israel’s Likud party yesterday launched a scathing attack on Hatnuah party leader Tzipi Livni and Labor party leader Isaac Herzog following the stabbing operation in Jerusalem.
“The terrorist attack this evening in Jerusalem occurred several weeks after Tzipi Livni said once again that she is ready to consider dividing Jerusalem,” the Likud party, led by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said in remarks on Facebook.
In a statement reported by the Israeli’s Maariv newspaper, Likud said: “If Tzipi and Bougie [Herzog] will form a leftist government – Hamas will be at the heart of Jerusalem.”
It was not possible to obtain comment from Hatnuah or the Labor party on the Likud’s remarks which were shared on Netanyahu’s Facebook page as well. The parties have formed a coalition called the Zionist Camp to run in the upcoming elections.
Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described former Justice Minister Livni, as “a threat to Israel”.
If the Zionist camp formed the next government, Herzog will head the government for two years and Livni will head it for the following two.
Israeli sources claimed an Israeli was stabbed yesterday allegedly by a Palestinian.
Israeli general elections are scheduled for next month. Polls suggest that the Livni-Herzog alliance would win.
