Algeria expects a joint decision to be made by OPEC members regarding the oil price crisis, Anadolu Agency reported a senior official as saying.
According to Anadolu, Algerian Energy Minister Yousef Al-Yousefi was interviewed on government radio and said: “The discussions conducted with a number of OPEC members sought urgent solutions for the declining oil prices, which reached $60 per barrel.”
As part of efforts to reach a united position regarding the oil crisis, Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika dispatched envoys to several OPEC member countries, including Saudi Arabia and other countries members of African Petroleum Producers’ Association (APPA).
Al-Yousefi attributed the falling oil prices to the increasing production of certain large economies such as Japan, China and India, in addition to some countries increasing their oil production.
