US, Iran meet to discuss nuclear issue

The US Secretary of State John Kerry and his Iranian counterpart Javad Zarif met in Lausanne, Switzerland, yesterday to discuss the nuclear issue, according to journalists and photographers.

The meeting began early yesterday morning at the Beau Rivage Palace Hotel. Both sides have come under increasing pressure not to make more concessions than are necessary to reach a deal.

Negotiators from the five major countries – Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany -will be appointed today, according to Iranian officials.

If the major powers and Iran reach a political agreement by 31 March, the parties will move to the preparation of a final and complete agreement comprising all technical details.

Any agreement will ensure that Iran’s nuclear activities are peaceful and that international sanctions against the country are lifted.
