Israeli courts extend detention of Palestinians

A Palestinian rights group said on Sunday that the Israeli occupation authorities have extended the detention of a number of Palestinians, including senior officials of Hamas, Quds Press has reported. All the prisoners were arrested in a round-up by occupation forces in the occupied West Bank city of Nablus last week.

According to the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club (PPC), the Israeli courts’ decision affects the detention of 38 Palestinians. The pretext is that initial investigations are complete and the prosecution process will begin soon.

The PPC revealed that the court in Bitah Tikfa extended the detention of 17 prisoners; the court within Al-Masqoubia Investigation Centre dealt with two; and the court in Al-Jalama Detention Centre extended the detention of six others.

In addition, the military court in Ofer Prison extended the detention of seven prisoners, while another military court, in Salem, extended the detention of six more.
