Hamas denies that two of its fighters have been arrested in Sinai

The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement denied on Monday that two members of its military wing have been arrested in the Sinai Peninsula. According to Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum, the claims in the Egyptian media are “completely false”.

Two brothers arrested by the Egyptian security forces in Sinai allegedly told their captors that they are part of the Ezzedine Al-Qassam Brigades.

“These reports were meant to defame the Palestinian resistance,” insisted Barhoum. “We renew our assertion that Al-Qassam’s resistance arena is only Palestine and our main conflict is only with the Israeli enemy. We do not aim our weapons at anyone rather than the occupation.”

He added that all such campaigns intended to hurt the reputation of Hamas “would fail.”
