UN chief applauds Turkish efforts in the region

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon yesterday applauded Turkey’s role during its G20 Presidency, saying it has made big contributions, especially in welcoming Syrian refugees, the Anadolu Agency reported.

Speaking during a conference held in the Paris-based Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the UN chief said: “The UN appreciates the humanitarian activities carried out by Turkey” stressing his organisation’s support for Ankara’s efforts.

The UN chief stressed that poverty eradication remains one of the UN’s main goals.

“Our goal is to eradicate poverty and achieve prosperity,” he said.
