Islamic Jihad says PA cracks down on members in West Bank

A Palestinian faction on Saturday accused the security agencies of the Palestinian Authority (PA) of cracking down on its members in the occupied West Bank.

Islamic Jihad, one of several major factions in the Palestinian territories, said PA security agencies stepped up their crackdown on its members in the West Bank.

It added in a statement that most arrested members were Palestinians who had been released from Israeli jails.

The faction did not, however, mention the number of members arrested recently by PA security agencies.

Nevertheless, it described the alleged crackdown as both “unpatriotic” and “irresponsible.”

It said the crackdown would deepen inter-Palestinian rifts even more, noting that it mainly targeted members who served in Israeli jails in the past.

The PA is yet to comment on the statement of Islamic Jihad.
