Erekat: ‘We will not exchange rights for rights’

Palestinian chief negotiator Saeb Erekat said yesterday that Palestinians would never accept any solutions that diminishes the Palestinian rights recognised by the UN, including a Palestinian state on 1967 borders with East Jerusalem, free of settlement, as its capital, Quds Net reported yesterday.

He also added that one of the main Palestinian rights recognised by the UN is the right of return for Palestinian refugees based on UN Resolution 194. “Palestinians will not exchange rights with rights,” he said. “None of the established right is subject to be conceded.”

Erekat, who heads the Palestinian national supreme committee which deals with the ICC, was speaking in the headquarters of the Palestinian National Council in Amman briefing members about the latest in the Palestinian situation regarding the ICC.

He spoke about the efforts being exerted to internationalise the Palestinian cause, as well as the latest on the situation with the ICC. “This is to punish and deter the criminal in order to stop its crimes against the Palestinians and their land,” he said.

“Palestine joined up to 40 organisation, agreements and protocols so far,” he said, “and there are many ahead to be joined.”

Meanwhile, Head of the Palestinian National Council Salim Al-Za’noun, who attended the meeting, said that Palestinian accession to the ICC is an “achievement,” noting that the Palestinians are involved in a continue war with the Israeli occupation for the sake of their rights.

He stressed on the independence of the Palestinians state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital and the return of Palestinian refugees based on UN Resolution 194.

Al-Za’noun stressed on the importance to continue Palestinian efforts on all levels, including legal and diplomatic levels. He also called for the consolidation of the internal Palestinian front.
