Al-Nusra Front: 'Alawites are our brothers if they lay down their arms'

There is no battle of revenge between Al-Nusra Front and the Alawites if the latter “disown the Syrian regime”, the commander of Al-Nusra in Syria said.

“The people of every Alawite village, who disown the Syrian regime and its acts, as well as lay down their arms, stop fighting beside the regime and return to Islam, are our brothers and the Front will defend them,” Abu-Mohammad Al-Julani said on Al-Jazeera.

Al-Julani added: “There is much revenge between the Sunnis and Alawites, the sect which Bashar Al-Assad belongs to. Muslim scholars recognise its apostasy. We are not in a war of revenge, but a war of self-defence. We do not fight except those who fight us.”

The top leader of Al-Nusra Front, which has announced adherence to Al-Qaeda and been adopted as its branch in Syria, said his Front is not currently thinking about establishing an Islamic emirate or state.
