Houthis leader: Yemenis take up arms against “Israeli- US” project

Leader of the Houthi rebels Abdul-Malik al-Houthi said that thousands of Yemenis are to take up arms and head to the battlegrounds if the aggression increases, Anadolu Agency reported on Wednesday.

Al-Houthi said the Yemenis would fight the Israeli- US project, referring to the Saudi-led coalition which has been carrying out attacks against the Houthis.

The comments were made during a televised speech, which coincided with the UN- sponsored negotiations that have begun in Geneva with the aim of bringing an end to the conflict.

Al-Houthi said: “Our nation is moving at all levels, recognising the reality of the US better than any time before.” He added that democracy and human rights were “shallow slogans” to the US.

Regarding Saudi Arabia, al-Houthi said: “The Saudi regime expresses an aggressive trend born by a group of people who do not have ethics, values or any responsibility… The Saudi regime feels embarrassed and is looking for something to maintain its honour.”

He criticised Yemeni political factions for their reliance on international support to solve Yemen’s problems, adding that by doing so they have “sold their land and honour”.

He also accused them of turning their backs on the “Peace and National Partnership” deal, signed after the Houthis made significant advances in Sana’a.
