Following the attack on the Egyptian Attorney General Hisham Barakat, the government has cancelled celebrations of the June 30 revolution, Jordanian news agency Petra reported.

In a statement, the presidency said: “Such acts [killing of the attorney general] do not stop efforts being exerted towards development and achieving the rights, hopes and ambitions of the Egyptian people, who aspire for stability and security.”

Meanwhile, the presidency said it cancelled all celebrations prepared for the second anniversary of the June 30 revolution to express sadness over the murder.

Sources in the Public Prosecution said lawyer Zakariya Othman has been appointed acting attorney general.
