Al-Jazeera presenter Ahmed Mansour stopped under Egyptian warrant in Turkey

Turkish airport authorities stopped prominent Al-Jazeera journalist Ahmad Mansour yesterday under an Egyptian arrest warrant.

In a Facebook post yesterday, Mansour said: “I was stopped at Ankara International Airport following a new arrest warrant issued against me by the regime of President Abdel Fatah Al- Sisi.”

“The Turkish authorities immediately released me after confirming my identity,” he added.

Mansour was sentenced to 15 years in prison in absentia for allegedly torturing an unnamed lawyer in Tahrir Square in 2011, a charge both he and the channel reject.

Mansour said the regime’s arrest warrant against him came “after their failure to arrest me last month in Germany”.
