Iraqi government could not prevent PKK attacks on Turkey, says Ankara

The Turkish foreign ministry has said that the government in Baghdad could not prevent PKK attacks launched against Turkey from Iraqi soil, Anadolu reported on Friday.

The ministry stressed that it was unacceptable to accept the positions of the Iraqi government towards such attacks, given that terrorist groups control more than one-third of Iraqi territory.

The PKK in Iraq has launched several attacks from Iraqi land against Turkish citizens and troops, which the Iraqi government has been unable to prevent or even protect its borders.

The official statement noted the otherwise good neighbourly relationship with Iraq, as well as the support it offers to Baghdad to fight Daesh.

It expressed Turkey’s disappointment with the “negative” positon of the Iraqi government towards the measures taken by Turkey against the PKK terrorists, which are in keeping with international law.
