A Palestinian youth died Saturday after being shot one day earlier by Israeli troops at an army checkpoint in the northern West Bank city of Ramallah, according to a local medical source.

“Laith Al-Khaldi, 17, succumbed to injuries sustained during clashes that erupted Friday between Palestinian youths and Israeli forces at Ramallah’s Atara checkpoint,” Ahmed Al-Beitawi, director of the Ramallah Medical Center, told Anadolu Agency.

“He underwent surgery after a sniper’s bullet pierced his chest and was later pronounced dead,” Al-Beitawi said.

On Friday, violent clashes broke out between Palestinian protesters and Israeli troops across the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem after a one-year-old Palestinian baby was burned to death when Jewish extremists torched his family’s home in Duma, a village in the southern West Bank.

Dozens of Palestinians were injured when Israeli troops used live ammunition and rubber bullets to break up the demonstrations.
