Yemeni PM and government ministers return to Aden

Yemeni Vice-President and Prime Minister Khaled Bahah arrived at Aden’s international airport on Saturday accompanied by several government ministers, an airport source has told Anadolu Agency.

“Bahah, along with a number of ministers, arrived at the Aden airport as a first step toward re-establishing the government in Yemen,” the sources said.

Yemen descended into chaos last September, when the Shia Houthi militia overran capital Sanaa. In April, the Houthis also managed to capture Yemen’s southern Aden province, from which President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi – along with most of his government – was forced to flee to Saudi Arabia.

Recent weeks, however, have seen pro-Hadi forces retake most of the coastal province, allowing for the gradual return of Yemeni government officials from Riyadh.

Last month, Hadi – who until now remains in Riyadh – appointed Nayef Al-Bakri as Aden’s provincial governor.
