Without a parliament, Sisi issues 263 laws

In the first year since the Egyptian coup, President Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi passed 196 laws, or 263 laws in his 420 days in power, a new study has revealed.

Al-Shorouk newspaper reported that some 171 laws were passed in 2014 and an additional 25 came into effect in 2015. Addition that 15 of the laws were not published in the official gazette and their details were not announced, thus the laws have not come into effect. Five of the bills passed are thought to be questionable and may be unconstitutional.

The newspaper explained that in the first year after the coup saw the second-highest number of laws issued by those who were in charge of legislative power after the January 25 Revolution.

Al-Shorouk added that ousted President Mohamed Morsi issued 154 laws during his period in office.
