MPs find Maliki and 17 others responsible for fall of Mosul to Daesh

An Iraqi parliamentary panel tasked with investigating the circumstances surrounding the fall of the northern city of Mosul to Daesh militants last year have named former Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki and 17 other state officials as being responsible. The panel’s report has been published in the Iraqi media; all of the names of those held responsible for the fall of the city are contained therein.

The list includes senior government, army and political figures, such as the former Army Chief of Staff Babacar Zebari, the former Commander of Land Forces Ali Ghaidan and the former Director of Military Intelligence, Hatem Al-Maksusi. Politicians listed include the former Deputy Governor of Nineveh, Hassan Allaf, the former Under Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Adnan al-Asadi and a member of Nineveh tribal council, Anwar al-Lahibi.

The Committee recommended that all of the officials should face legal action.
