An Egyptian court on Wednesday returned an appeal filed by Muslim Brotherhood (MB) Supreme Guide Mohamed Badei and other leaders against blacklisting the group, Quds Press reported.

The MB appeal disavowed any relationship with terror and said that the terror charges “are not real” but based on “political” grounds.

According to the court, “the MB was blacklisted by the rule of law and its leaders were sentenced either to death or to life terms over several terror issues. Therefore, the Public Prosecutor blacklisted it.”

In addition, the court said: “The terror act stipulates that the Public Prosecution nominates a list of terrorists, including anyone that led, directed, established or was a member of any terrorist entity.”

Last March, the Egyptian Public Prosecutor added Badei, his deputy Khayrat al-Shater and other MB leaders to the country’s list of terrorists, depending on court rulings that decided their involvement in violent acts.

The Public Prosecutor, in this decision, depended on the ruling of the criminal court in the case referred to as “The Incidents of Guidance Office” when MB members received verdicts that ranged between death sentences and life terms.

However, the ruling of the criminal court in that case was appealable, but yesterday’s court, which overruled the appeal, said that the Public Prosecutor’s decision is non-appealable.
