Abbas in Egypt for talks on Palestinian developments

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas arrived in Egypt yesterday for talks on the latest Palestinian developments.

Abbas discussed developments in the Palestinian territories and crises facing the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) with Egyptian President Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi, a diplomatic source told the Anadolu Agency.

Abbas was also due to brief the Egyptian leader on his intention not to seek office in the coming Palestinian presidential elections, the source added.

According to Palestinian diplomatic sources, Abbas, 80, will not contest the coming election for health reasons.

Talks between Israeli and Palestinian negotiators ground to a halt a year ago after Tel Aviv refused to release a group of Palestinian prisoners despite earlier promising to do so.
