Egyptian court refuses to accuse Qatar and Turkey of ‘supporting terrorism’

An Egyptian court yesterday rejected the criminalisation of Qatar and Turkey on charges of “supporting terrorism”, under a lawsuit filed by an Egyptian lawyer.

The Cairo Court for Urgent Matters said it lacked jurisdiction when it came to charging Qatar and Turkey of supporting terrorism and terrorist armed groups in Egypt.

An Egyptian lawyer had alleged that “Turkey and Qatar embrace many of the leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood movement, which is classified as a terrorist group both officially and legally, and that all armed demonstrations and acts of violence carried out inside the Egyptian territories by the terrorist group’s elements and the group’s supporters are being planned and financed from inside the territory of both Qatar and Turkey.”

He added that “armed marches, acts of chaos and violence and terrorist operations within Egypt, especially in the Sinai area, are being conducted by terrorist groups that receive direct support from the two states.”
