Death sentence for anti-coup Egyptian

Giza Criminal Court sentenced Amr Salah Al-Fazzani to death over charges of storming a police station, burning it and killing policemen, Al-Araby Al-Jadeed reported yesterday.

Al-Fazzani had previously been sentenced to death in absentia, but the court reinforced the sentence after he was arrested and attended a hearing.

In addition to Al-Fazzani, 182 anti-coup prisoners were sentenced to death in February this year, a minor was sentenced to ten years in prison over charges including storming a police station, burning it and killing policemen in August 2013.

Al-Fazzani’s lawyer denounced the death sentence and said he would appeal the decision before the Court of Cassation.

In the wake of the military coup against the first freely elected Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi, the Egyptian army, which has been ruling the country, arrested thousands of anti-coup Egyptians.
