Policeman shoots Saudi student in Cairo

The Saudi Embassy in Cairo said it was closely following an Egyptian police investigation in to the shooting of a Saudi student by an Egyptian police officer in a Cairo two days ago.

The Saudi Embassy spokesman in Cairo, Saud Kabli told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed: “A Saudi man was found with a bullet wound in the Zagazig neighbourhood.”

Kabli explained that the man, Basil M, 32, was a student at a university in Cairo. He was transferred to a hospital in the Egyptian capital and the embassy is following up on the matter with the Egyptian authorities and local police investigations.

The Egyptian security authorities have arrested a police officer for allegedly shooting the Saudi youth.

Security sources said the police officer has been jailed for four days pending an investigation.

Sources told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed that a dispute broke out between the two men over a drug deal, the officer denies the claim.
