Yemen’s national army and the popular Yemeni resistance forces have gained control of the mountain ranges in the east of Sanaa, Al Jazeera reported yesterday.
According to Palestinian newspaper Al-Resalah, the army and the popular resistance are seeking to retake Sanaa from Houthi militias who gained control of it in September 2011.
Tribal sources told Al Jazeera that the army and popular resistance forces are now stationed a 60 kilometres from Sanaa, the closest point since 2011.
Al Jazeera said the popular resistance forces aim to surround the Houthis and the forces of ousted Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh from the northeast and the southeast of the capital, noting that their advance from the east of Sanaa would cut supplies from the Houthis and dismantle their power.
