Lebanon’s Jemaah Islamiyah elects new Secretary General

The Jemaah Islamiyah Shura Council in Lebanon yesterday elected Azzam Ayoubi as new Secretary-General.

Ayoubi will replace Ibrahim Al-Masri, who chaired the Shura Council since 2010.

Earlier, the council elected Sheikh Mohammed Sheikh Ammar as head.

The Jemaah Islamiyah in Lebanon is one of the main political forces in the country and enjoys popularity in many areas.

The Islamist group was founded in 1964.
