Israel evaluates Hezbollah attack

The Chief of Staff of the Israel Defence Forces, General Gadi Eizenkot, held a meeting on Monday to evaluate the situation after the attack by Hezbollah on two Israeli military vehicles on the border with Lebanon, Anadolu has reported.

IDF spokesman Avichay Adrae said that the two vehicles were hit with an improvised explosive device and the army responded with targeted artillery fire. No casualties were reported after the Israeli shelling. Adrae denied claims that a senior Israeli official was targeted in the attack and that Israeli soldiers were kidnapped.

Hezbollah said that it detonated a large explosive device as two Israeli vehicles passed in the disputed Chebaa Farms area, causing casualties among the IDF troops. Hezbollah has blamed Israel and vowed to avenge the death of its senior leader Samir Al-Kantar, who was killed in what was believed to be an Israeli air strike in Syria last month. According to Hezbollah, the attack on the IDF was carried out by the “Samir Kantar Unit”.

Israeli Defence Minister Moshe Ya’alon said that he would also hold evaluation meetings with officers from his ministry.
